In 2020, the group dropped the name “Dixie” and decided to go with “the Chicks.” In the same year, they released their first studio album 14 years after their last record, Taking the Long Way. The group started working on their new album, Gaslighter, in 2018, and songs were party based on personal experiences. The Chicks frontwoman Natalie Maines was going through a divorce during the songwriting process. Upon the release of Gaslighter, critics praised the lyrics for being real, raw, and honest. The lyrics were so personal that Maines’ ex-husband tried to block the album's release. The title track, “Gaslighter,” is about ending toxic relationships and finding freedom.
The album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and was highly acclaimed by music critics. This 2022, the band will be taking Gaslighter’s tracks on tour and performing them in front of a live audience for the first time. The Chicks are also ecstatic about bringing along folk singer Patty Griffin and indie artist Jenny Lewis on select dates.
The 2022 tour comes after the Chicks’ exceptionally successful 2017 to 2018 tour, which grossed over $58 million, based on data reported to Billboard Boxscore.
