Known for its over-the-top, eccentric on-stage presence, Ghost is a Swedish band that has become one of the most unique musical groups. Led by Tobias Forge, guised as Papa Emeritus IV, the band is known for its Satanic-themed songs and performances characterized by hooky melodies, outlandish costumes, and controversial live shows. Forge is backed by a band called the "Nameless Ghouls," a seven-member group wearing virtually identical, face-concealing costumes.
Since its beginnings in 2006, Ghost has released five studio albums. Their debut album "Opus Eponymous," released in 2010, cemented their place in Sweden's rock music scene. Thanks to their hook-laden songs that merged the rock tunes of the 70s and 80s. Their third studio album, "Meliora," enabled the band to earn their first Grammy nomination and eventual win for the song "Cirice." This was followed by three other nominations: Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song in 2019 and Best Metal Performance in 2023. Indeed, Ghost has gone global and become one of the most sought-after metal bands in Europe.
This 2023, the band is embarking on a 27-date US summer tour dubbed "The Re-Imperatour." The tour will kick off in Concord, California, on August 2 and will cap off in Los Angeles on September 11. The band will stop at USANA Amphitheater on August 7, together with another Swedish rock band Amon Amarth. The melodic death metal band, Amon Amarth, is known for their songs that allude to the Vikings and Norse mythology. In fact, the band has earned the unique genre of "Viking metal," a moniker given to them for always having the themes of Norse myth and its history in their songs.
